Recently, a shocking art theft occurred in Lugano, Switzerland. The statue of Bitcoin's mysterious founder Satoshi Nakamoto located in Parco Ciani was stolen, drawing widespread attention.
The statue, carefully crafted by Italian artist Valentina Picozzi, is made of 304 stainless steel and weather-resistant steel, and was officially unveiled last October. This statue not only pays tribute to Satoshi Nakamoto but also symbolizes the ambition of the city of Lugano in the field of digital innovation.
Lugano's mayor Michele Foletti responded to the matter, emphasizing that the statue reflects the city's strong commitment to digital innovation. He stated: "Lugano is rapidly rising to become a leading city in digital innovation, and this statue not only commemorates Satoshi Nakamoto but also highlights our city's forward-looking vision."
The Satoshigallery team, responsible for the global Satoshi Nakamoto statue project, has taken action, offering a reward of 0.1 Bitcoin (approximately $11,000) for information on the statue's whereabouts. They have posted on social media, calling on the public to provide clues, while reiterating that the plan to install Satoshi Nakamoto statues in 21 cities worldwide will not be affected by this.
It is worth mentioning that this is not the first public artwork commemorating Satoshi Nakamoto. As early as 2021, a unique bronze statue stood in Graphisoft Park in Budapest, Hungary, with its mirror-like design carrying profound implications, suggesting that Satoshi Nakamoto could be anyone.
This theft not only raised concerns about the security of art pieces but also once again brought the mysterious figure of Satoshi Nakamoto into the public eye. Although the statue was stolen, the legacy of Bitcoin and blockchain technology that Satoshi Nakamoto left to the world continues to have a profound impact globally.
